Upendra is an Indian actor, writer, director, producer and politician. He is known for his work in Kannada and Telugu film industry. He made his film debut with director Kashinath as a writer and an assistant director. His first directorial venture was Tharle Nanmaga. In the mid-1990s, Upendra directed two films Om And A, the film A His first film as an actor was. In 2023, he is playing a leading role in the film 45 starring Shiv Raaj Kumar in the lead role.

- His brother Sudhindra Rao served in the Border Security Force for 10 years. After that, he resigned from his job and helped his brother Upendra in film production.
- During his college days, he often participated in troupe plays with his friends. After graduation, he started his career in the film industry and assisted director Kashinath in various departments besides helping him write songs, dialogues and screenplays for his films.
- Later, he made his directorial debut through the film Tharle Naan Maga (1992). The film introduced Jaggesh, a noted comedian.,
- In 1993, Upendra starred in Shsh! In which Kumar Govind is in the lead role. His next venture was a gangster film Om (1995) with Shivarajkumar in the lead role.
